An aquatic breed of Tiger with a webbed head crest and tentacles that hang down from its chin. It is stockier than most Tiger breeds and it has a single horn on its forehead that acts as a sonar device. It also has a short, thick tail, denoting its relationship to Lesione. But when it appears in Monster Rancher 3 (a game that does not allow combining), monsters are classified according to where they live. Garum live in the ocean region known as Goat. They are great monsters to raise, but can be ferocious if not trained properly from infancy.
It is briefly named Rafal for Monster Rancher Advance and redesigned without the large fins on its head. A type of Tiger that looks like it could be a Rafal can be seen at the IMa Training Park in Episode 64 of the anime series.
Etymology[]
Its original name, garum (mistranslated into galum), was a fermented fish sauce used as a condiment in the cuisines of ancient Greece, Rome, and Byzantium. Originally taken from the Greek word Garos, the species of fish that was used for it. Additionally, it may be a mistranslation of Garmr, a wolf or dog associated with both Hel and Ragnarök, and described as a blood-stained guardian of Hel's gate.
